The Dallas County R-1 School District is cracking down on bullying. Part of this effort is the creation of this new page on our website.

What Is Bullying?

Bullying is unwanted, aggressive behavior among school aged children that involves a real or percieved power imbalance. The behavior is repeated, or has the potential to be repeated, over time. Both kids who are bullied and who bully others may have serious, lasting problems.

Types of Bullying:
There are three types of bullying:
1. Verbal bullying- examples: teasing, name-calling, taunting, inappropriate sexual comments, and threatening to cause harm
2. Social bullying- leaving someone out on purpose, telling other children not to be friends with someone, spreading rumors about someone, and embarrassing someone in public
3.Physical bullying- hitting/kicking/pinching, spitting, tripping or pushing, taking or breaking someone's things, and making mean or rude hand gestures

How to Respond There are a few ways to respond to bullying; they are:
1. Stop bullying on the spot
2. Find out what happened
3. Support the Kids Involved
4. Be more than a bystander

Bullying is a major problem. Whether a child is being bullied or is the bully, it can negatively affect them for the rest of their lives. If any student or parent feels someone is being bullied at school, they should contact their building principal regarding their feelings.
